The Laboratory and Boudoir in the Birthmark

This article analyzes two specific symbols: the laboratory and the boudoir. The difference between the laboratory and the boudoir is symbolic in the story the Birthmark because language and imagery used to describe them. Even the atmospheres in the two rooms starkly contrast each other. The boudoir represents Georgiana, her spirit, and life itself. While the laboratory represents Aylmer and his mortality.
